Our Origins

The Haus of Nunsense was founded in 2020 by Sister Alaska Lott and Sister Babeushka, who are both fully professed Sisters and have been active members of the Order of Perpetual Indulgence since 2018. Their aim was to find new ways of working to support the LGBTQ+ community in Scotland, which they sought to achieve through a variety of both digital and offline projects.

By 2024 the Haus was established as a fully-functioning House within the Order, with strong connections with both the local community and like-minded organisations.

Who Are Our Members?

Our membership includes strong representation of the trans and gender non-conforming community, and we’re proud to have created a space in which people of all genders can feel safe and welcome. This translates into the ministry that we perform as a Haus, which includes being active trans activists, highlighting trans issues across all our media, and supporting events that are specifically trans-inclusive. Visit our meet the members page to find out more about us.

What’s in a Name?

The name of our house reflects our core values and goals. "Haus" refers to the tradition of drag houses (many of whom start their name with ‘Haus of’), which have often become a chosen family for their LGBTQ+ members, offering support and belonging for a community who are often rejected by their biological families. "Nunsense" highlights our dedication to joy as we strive to create a fun, laughter-filled environment where everyone can feel supported and find happiness in living their best lives.
