Have we gone corporate and sold out to just advertise selling you things?!

Simple answer: no.

However, we do recognise that sometimes people do appreciate having some form of physical item to remember an interaction with us. And sometimes we have some really creative nuns in our midst who like to create things that might bring joy to people. And so we have decided that for those items that we do make, they have to be special to us, they have to be meaningful to you (even if that meaning is just putting a smile on your face), and they have to be kept as affordable as possible.

That doesn’t mean we will just sell items we have created at cost though, as we also have to be clear that we receive no external funding or support for what we do, and that usually means our nuns are paying to do everything themselves. And unfortunately capitalism means that does cost us. So we thought, if people enjoy what we make enough, perhaps they wouldn’t mind knowing that any purchases also help generate a small amount of surplus for us to then feedback to our work.

Our pledge is always to look at the surplus generated after we have covered the cost of making any items sold and to pass those generated funds on to:

  1. A queer organisation that is supporting the queer community, whether they are a registered charity or unincorporated group,

  2. Fundraising requests that are from queer people and appear to be genuine in their need, or

  3. A Haus Member who identifies as having low disposable income and could use more support to help cover the cost that comes with being a Sister (the makeup, travelling to events, etc.).
